My husband and I have a myspace page which we communicate with a select group of friends from our past. It started out fun, tweaking the page with music and slide shows. Finding the most outlandish videos on youtube and sharing those with our friends. Putting photos of our life up for all to view. But then a person from the past started spying on our page. (We have a mutual friend who's comments recieve regular comments by this person to things we've had posted on our site.) So, naturally we headed over to check this persons page out who evidently realized this would happen as they installed a sitemeter. The sitemeter cookied us and tracked our internet surfing.

So, I don't know about myspace any longer. I know we dont want to be tracked and I know this person is in our past for a reason. We'd like to keep it that way. But, it's a pretty convenient way to communicate with our friends whom we otherwise rarely see or speak to. Has anyone had to deal with a myspy before? What to do?

I've had a MySpace account for a short while, and I'm still learning the ins and outs of it. I've learned to tweak my profile. post bulletins, browse, copy and paste, excetera. When I go to comment on one of my friends bulletins; it says " Cannot post without verifying e-mail address, click here,and return home. It tells me that the verification was sent. I don't see anything. MySpace tutorials haven't helped that much, maybe I'm missing something. I have a Yahoo e-mail account and a MySpace IM. Is that what's snagging up the MySpace account? I don't want to change my Yahoo e-mail, because I use that for job hunting and other communications. Pardon my ignorance, it took me a while to learn how to use the MySpace and I'm still learning.

Myspace would have sent you an email to your yahoo account if that is the one you used to create the Myspace account. You would have to go to your inbox (on your yahoo account) to find the email they sent to you in order to verify your account. If it's not in your inbox then check your trash, you may have already sent it to delete. After you verify your email account you shouldn't have any problems.

Have you noticed that all you need to do to learn more about a person here at Epinions is to look at their profile and then glance at the questions they have asked? The questions we ask here tell the world a whole lot more about us than our Myspace profiles -- which can be faked and tweaked.

I don't mean to sound paranoid but when we read the novel 1984 we are appalled by the invasions of privacy -- and yet in real life we are simply willing to post all of our inner most thoughts here and literally have zero privacy.

Example: Someone mentions an interesting political perspective here. I'm curious about them and click their profile. I click their questions asked link. I find out that one question might have been interesting but the rest of their account is interested in cosmetics or tamagatchi or erectile dysfunction. Stupid stuff or stuff that is far too personal.

Even in this question I can be profiled as a paranoid curmudgeon, do-gooder. How much privacy will we sacrifice?

I understand what you are saying.my husband always gets upset with me for answering questions.He grew up in communist Hungary and had to be paranoid.He and his friends were often afraid that they would be reported to the police for just listening to rock music from the Beatles and Stones.He was pulled into the police station several times as a teenager just for wearing Levi jeans from the West.Once several police conered he and his friends and cut off their "long" Beatle length hair.

He is still very careful about what he says over the telephone and anything he writes down.

As I am older now, I don't really care if they profile me since there isn't much to get out of me.I do worry about the next generations of people who I believe are slowly losing their freedoms.

might be the font...click inside the HTML box, hit CTRL and F to search through the text. type in "font face" and see if anything shows...if it doesnt it might be CSS which i dont understand, but if a font shows up, change it to times, verdana, tahoma or something.

Sorry to say, but It's not possible with this layout to change the background by simply changing something in the code. If you right click and see the main image:

The background is part of the image, so there is no way to remove it by changing the code.

You would need to download the image, modify it using Photoshop or a graphics program (which requires some graphic skills), upload it somewhere on the web and change the path of the image in the code, as well as change the path of the page background image as well.

Edit: Sorry, but you cannot change the background on a DIV layout unless you make/edit it yourself using photo shop, paint shop, ect. The background itself is the layout.

You can try leaving a comment on the page, asking if he/she could edit it for you or you can post a layout request in the forums...some of the people on there take requests.

I came across lovemyflash.com and love it!!! Finally a site with layouts that makes my myspace page look like a website, not a myspace page. I like their layouts as starting foundations but want to tweak their layouts more than what they offer. For example, I'd like to choose different fonts for different areas of my page other than what they offer). Anyone know of a way to tweak their layouts more?

I've often wondered this. Now a days, we have the gift of advanced (still advancing) technology at our fingertips. With the push of a button, we can make ourselves whatever we want to be.

For instance, we can say that we're "this" or "that" on our MySpace page. In photos, we can tweak our bodies and facial features to make them appear more beautiful or whatever. The thing is no one will know if we're faking it or not.

This in mind, what do you think we're becoming? (Sorry. Phrasing this question proves difficult! But I still hope you can understand the "gist" of it!)

I think it is easier to create false realities nowadays. Sometimes they are so convincing we can even fake ourselves out. Say you build yourself up in a shameless show of exhibitionism on MySpace. You create a you that's better than you. At first you know you're b.s.ing people, but with time you forget and it becomes "real." Before MySpace, this kind of thing was limited to streakers and karaoke. You can't fake much with those things.

Most definately, yeah, sure you can type how good a person you are, or what kinda answer you may give, may look good, but you don't have that body language, or anything like that to show how you really feel. Sure throw in a couple of !!!! to it, and maybe it will give it more language. And the picture thing, I can tell you mine is real, I'm to dang lazy to alter it any for a "Good" image. If anything, the dang camera is probably broke, lol

In a hundred years, the technology we have now will seem like nothing. Well, compare now to the technology 100 years ago (and they thought they were advanced... and they were, I guess).

It's always been easy to fake anything you want. The tools have always been there with equal success, relative to the times (pen names, greased lenses, etc, etc...). As technology to skew reality advances, so does our knowledge and ability to detect such technology... so the margin is always the same.

So no... it's not more difficult to perceive what's real or fake (not that there's always an actual distinction though, honestly) now than ever before. But it's always been hard for many people.

I think you're supposed to repost a bulletin or something to get access to it, but something on the page isn't set up right yet.

In the meantime, I don't know why the code in the caption box technique isn't working. Are you setting it up right? You do need to take the url from tinyurl and put it in quotations, but it needs to look like this: %26lt;img src="URL"%26gt; Did you forget the %26lt;img src="..."%26gt; part? If so, try that.

Centering Display Picture [I need someone with HTML knowledge]?

On Myspace, I have a tweaked default layout. I was able to center everything that was off a little bit [My display name, extended network] by searching through the code, but my display picture is on the top left corner on the left side [where it should be] but because my display name and general information [gender, location, age,] is centered, it makes it look weird, having a huge gap between my picture and general information. And I cannot find the code that justifies the position for the image.

Is there any way I could find the code in the layout code to fix this?

This is why I prefer Yuniti ( http://yuniti.com ) to facebook. It has all the benifits of facebook., but you can also customize it more. Facebook is kind of bland. Still good, just less pretty.

I'm good with computers, but somebody I use the computer with downloaded this program. It can't be uninstalled by doing the control panel ---%26gt; add/remove programs. It gives the error message, "Please close the PhotoPlus 6 application before attempting to Modify or Remove the installation". It's taking up 308MB on the computer, and it's a program I don't even want on there. I asked the person about it, and they said it wasn't the right photo program they wanted. They want to download all this photo program junk to tweak there myspace pictures, after they already paid fifty bucks for a program they don't even use.

I have tweaked my myspace website by cutting and pasting stuff into my 'about me' block that i have no idea what is what. If you want to keep the code under wraps... remove all the HTML codes that you've added, start afresh by first pasting the code for the layout, then background, then profile box, music player and so on.

Use comments of the style %26lt;!-- %26gt; to label what code is for what. Being organised will help you find errors better.

There is an easy way to fix this, but you have to be able to sort through the html code. Somewhere in your code, all of the text is most likely pre set to black. When you previewed the layout, was all the text black? That is the only thing I could think of. The text is most likely set to black. Go through your code, and anywhere you see something like, FONT COLOR = 000000; or FONT COLOR = BLACK; then delete it. Feel free to email me if this doesn't work.

The code that you need to erase that is in the corner are usually in the very last part of the layout code. Look for the name =hotprofilesplus...between %26lt; and%26gt; erase the code.

I was adding banners to my interest, music %26amp; movies section. I also added a personal banner to my extended network module. I put the code for extended network banner at the end of the about me section. Now my video display box has disappeared. I did remove the first banner I put in it to tweak it, then put final one in. I need a code that allows me to disable clicking of the default picture to gain access to my photo albums. In other words, I want my default picture on the page, but no one can click the picture to get to my photo albums. I have already disabled the "view pics / vids" link, now I'd like to disable clicking of the default picture. I've seen it done before and I can't figure out the code.

Please answer only if you are advanced in terms of myspace codes / tweaks (or at least know your way around codes). It's very difficult when beginner's get on here and their only answer is "huh" or post a link to a website that has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

Ok. A friend of mine asked me to "pimp" his profile. I have it all done, just added all the codes..saved, and previewed. He has a custome background that I made for him. I used killerkiwi.net to put that all together. I've never had problems with that site.

Anyway, when I pressed "save" and then "view profile" (in the upper left corner..i -never- uses 'preview section", it looks fine for a few seconds, till it fully loads, then an ugly default red background overtakes the background I made. Now, I've tweaked my own profile enough..this has never happened before. I also created a dummy account that I used to test everything as I got it made, it doesn't do it on that page. I am BAFFLED as to why it's reverting to an ugly red default background. I have NO idea how to change it, I have looked. Anyone that actually knows..please answer. Anyone that is just posting a guess to get points...don't waste my time please.

If you want a webpage-like layout, it requires some coding, nothing to difficult, and for you to edit things like removing some videos, or resizing them, and removing or resizing photos. Usually, It'll be some type of DIV layout. those look really sharp, and nice. Much less common than your basic layout with a picture in the background

I don't know of a specific tweak that is designed to do what you have said, but I know of a tweak that you can make do that. I have a tweak on my profile that lets me decide what picture I want for my top 16, and let's me name them whatever. So, my friend Haley has her myspace set up to be a picture of her and her display name is "Moonrise". But on my own myspace, under my friends list, it shows her (my number 3 on my top 12) as "Lady Haley the Mischevious" with a picture of her that I chose instead of whatever she has up. That is what this tweak normally does. Now, for what you want, instead of linking it to your friend's profile (when you clikc the name), you could just link it to the dictionary.com site that has the definition of the word.

Read through what it says really carefully, and follow the directions mostly. BUT when it says to add their URL to their myspace, you need to open a new browser page and go to dictionary.com and look for the definitition you want and put THAT URL into the code INSTEAD of your friend's myspace link. You can either make the name of that friend that name, and follow the directions for using the regular picture of that friend, OR you can find pictures of those words through www.images.google.com, (say if you want 'love', then go to that link ^^ of google and type love, you should find love written in some cool funky ways) and then follow the directions for getting that picture. The only difference for that will be that instead of doing what the directions say and going to your friends myspace and finding the URL (don't worry if you don't understand that, you'll read about it, and it'll make sense to you like it did to me), you would then go to the google search page and follow the directions to getting the URL of whatever other picture you want for them. Probably, if you decide to find your own pictures of words like hope, love, unity, whatever, you will want to have numbers as the names. For example, say I have a friend Anna. I want her name and picture to show up on my myspace as Joy. You would find a picture of words saying 'Joy' and get the URL and link it there for the picture. However, it might look a little odd to have her name as Joy or even as Anna above a picture of words that say Joy, so maybe you could have a #1 above the picture instead. If Anna was my top friend, she'd be number one, and if Abigail was my #2 friend, she'd have a number two above the picture of words as Happiness that is her picture on my myspace.

I asked about how I get my blog back since I used a tweak to delete it a while back....now I want to use it and I cant figure out which code it was to erase it. Same for a quiz I have on there. I got an answer to this question that said copy all codes into a notepad and color each code to seperate it so I know which is which. Then I can erase the ones I want. okay, heres what cha do... since everything gets screwed up, delete your tweak, but also copy all your other codes, make sure all your sections are blank and then save it, after you save it wait a few minutes and put it all back on again, and it should be good!

Ok, when I set up my profle, I used a tweak to erase the blogs completely from my page (I never used it then). Well now Id like to start using it, but its erased from my page. I tried to find out what code it was that I pasted into my about me section....but there is a few other codes I put in there as well and I dont know which one it is or where the code for that only starts and ends. I dont want to erase the other codes though, it took me a while to get them the way I want it. Also I have a quiz that I would like to remove but the same problem with finding the code. If I knew which one it was, I could just erase it and save it.....but there is no way of doing that. Does anyone else have ANY other suggestions that wont mess up everything else on it? Okay...I'm not really going to explain why you have to put codes like that, but just give the code. Okay, if you want to change things you hat to use HTML and CSS (But MOSTLY HTML).They're coding.

1. Making Text Colored.

Okay, each color is given an "ID". It contains numbers and letters. Here's a color code chart...

Just copy and paste the 'ID' into the "colorcodehere" part of the code. Oh, and when you insert it, don't put the # sign.

2. Resizing the text

Okay, in resizing it you put a number from 1-7 into the numberhere part. 1 is probably like a size "8" in your ordinary word processor (Like MIcrosoft word). Size 7 is probably a size 32 on the word processor.

3. Moving your picture.

Where it says imagelinkhere, just put the url of the picture in that place. Just upload your picture to photobucket.com or imageshack.us and they'll give you a link already. Now where it says right/left/center pick where you want the picture to be. If you want right, then just delete the "/left/center" and that's it. Don't delete anything else. Do the same with the rest (left and center).

4. Hiding Things.

To make them into a GIF? Like those animated icons? Well, you need some programs to do that. Like Photoshop and Jasc Animation Shop. You need to buy them. But you could download a free trial for both. Once you get them, search for tutorials online for animation.

The "Your text here" part is where you put your text [obviously]. This code will make your text move from left to right.

I need a code to hide my friend COUNT ONLY. I want my top friends to show, but I want to replace the number with either a word, or hide the number area completely.

I've seen some pages in which it says so-and-so has "The Best" friends instead of the actual number...and I've seen some people put labels where the friends name would go, for example above the picture it says "My sister" or 'My cousin" and things like that.

I would like to get codes for both but mainly just to hide the friend count.

Hmm... I've seen what you're talking about, but usually it was for custom top friends, where you replace their picture yourself and edit the count. My cousin has one, but I have no idea where she got it.

yes, photobucket is great. open an account at photobucket(free). then upload pics from your cpu. photobucket will show you your pic in your album. under your pic will be 4 codes. the code you want for myspace is html. just copy that code(one right click usually automaticly coppies it to your clipboard(see lower left corner of explorer when you do that, it should say "coppied to clipboard" briefly.

now, go to your myspace page(sign in). next to your main pic of you you should see a menu. choose "edit profile". that should bring you to a bunch of sections with stuff like "about me" and "who I'd like to meet" etc...just put your cursor over one of those empty boxes (maybe not empty if you've filled in info about you)right click, and choose paste. That shout paste that html code into that section.

now preview your profile, your pic should show up. If it's the way you want it too look choose "save changes". and presto, a new pic in your myspace page :)!!

I have seen a few profiles where the people had changed their details section options to something other than the regular options. Like on girls had "total dyke" down for her orientation and one and such.

It's not possible. I found that it will only do so if the page the video is viewed on is youtube. You can, however, make videos play automatically using google video.

Hey i've been trying out the katamari custom interest section editor. It's pretty cool. I'm kind of stuck now though because I don't know HTML very well and I'm having trouble tweaking it. I wanted to have an entire interest section that had one scroll bar, and it worked but the section is waaay too wide, and not tall at all. Because it's so wide everything else on my profile is hidden. In each subsection (ie music, movies) i have HTML to make scrollboxes because there's so much info, but the scrollbars are sideways now as well... I REALLY want to learn how to make my own myspace layout, and not tweak another persons. One of the things I really don't get is the fact some people say I need to learn CSS, but then others say I need to learn HTML coding?!?! SO which one?

Please help, and people on other questions like this gave crappy, confusing answers, like about whateverlife.com, and they DO NOT do that anymore. AND someone said go to w3schools.com, and I can't understand a freakin word they say.

but if you can learn HTML and CSS,

you will be well on your way to making some great Websites.

HTML is markup you use to put content onto a page. CSS is a way of "styling" that content.

You could stick entirely with HTML and use embedded styling and tables instead of CSS, but a page styled with CSS is simpler to modify and maintain.

My recommendation would be to find a CSS based template that is close to what you envision, and play around with it until you learn enough HTML and CSS to be dangerous, as well as accomplish what you want.

Then you can struggle with getting the page to look good on more than one browser and become angry and frustrated like the rest of the web designers in the world!

Oh yeah, be sure and hang a string of garlic next to your computer and maybe wave a wooden cross around occasionally - it won't make the page look better, but it might help you avoid jumping out the window! :-)

You can't learn without tweaking first.

I started out tweaking high profile div layouts and now I can make my own using JUST html.

At the moment facebook doesn't allow any design customization.

This is why I prefer Yuniti ( http://yuniti.com ) to facebook. It has all the benifits of facebook., but you can also customize it more. Facebook is kind of bland. Still good, just less pretty.

No you cannot, they have no way to change the coding like you can with myspace, they may have some type of app for the music though but you would have to seach through the apps, use keyword 'music'

You just have to change the numbers of the width and height of the table you want to change.

not exactly dizzy, but the background is too strong and distracting. the effect for me is that when i try to focus on objects and the background moves, my eyes are kinda split and decides at a fraction of a second where it want to look. plus there are so many moving bright things in sync, it becomes hard to focus. probably a lighter or more submissive than aggressive would help keep the focus on the main objects.

Didn't make me dizzy; It looks good to me. One thing you might want to think about is adding a comment box so when someone stops by they can say hi.

is there any web sites that have tweak codes for facebook so that you can view limited profiles and such? i know that myspace and xanga have them but i cant seem to find on for facebook, thanks for the help :-)
